Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Whether you're storing a vehicle or your household and business belongings, here's everything you need to know about storing with Gatewick Farm Storage. Can't find your answer? Call us on 01903 812241 or email info@gfstorage.co.uk and we'll be happy to help.

Access & Security

When can I access my storage?
Access hours depend on which type of storage you use:
Self storage units: 07:00 - 21:00, all year round.
Vehicle storage plots: hours shift with the UK clock changes.
  • Summer (BST): 07:00 - 21:00
  • Winter (GMT): 07:00 - 17:00
You'll be given your own personal access code to let you through our electric security gates (and, for internal self storage units, into the storage building too). There's no need to let us know when you're coming — just come and go as you please within the hours above.

Can I access my storage outside of standard hours?

Yes. Occasional out-of-hours access can be arranged in advance for a £5 per visit charge. This lets us keep the site properly managed and secure outside normal operating hours.
If you need frequent or unrestricted access, we offer a 24/7 access upgrade for £30 per month, so you're never limited to the standard hours. Get in touch if you'd like to arrange out-of-hours access or upgrade to 24/7.

How secure is Gatewick Farm Storage?

Very. We hold the platinum award from CaSSOA, the industry's leading vehicle storage accreditation body, and we're constantly investing in new ways to keep your property safe.
Our security measures include:
  • Electric security gates
  • Recorded entry and exit movements
  • CCTV cameras
  • Staff living onsite
  • Regular patrols of the site
Vehicle storage plots also benefit from:
  • High perimeter fencing
  • Earth-bunded perimeters
Self storage units also benefit from:
  • Motion-sensitive security lighting
Every vehicle stored onsite must be insured while in storage.

What facilities do you have onsite?

All customers have access to:
  • Toilets
  • Rubbish bins
  • A small onsite shop stocking caravan accessories, padlocks, soft drinks and snacks
Vehicle storage customers also have access to:
  • A fresh water tap for washing your vehicle and filling water tanks

Vehicle Storage

What kind of vehicles can I store?

Caravans, motorhomes, boats, trailers and cars can all be stored on any of our vehicle storage plots.

How big are the plots?

Plot sizes are approximate. See dimensions on each plot page:

Self Storage

Will I need to insure my items?
Yes. Items in your storage unit remain your responsibility, and you'll need insurance cover against loss or damage while they're in storage. Home contents insurance typically doesn't cover goods held in storage, so it's worth checking your policy.

If you don't already have cover, we can provide it through our StoreProtect add-on — just give us the replacement value of your goods and we'll add the protection fee to your bill.
If your goods are worth storing, they're worth insuring.

Will my storage space be private?

Yes. Your unit is secured with your own padlock, and only you hold the keys.

Do I need to bring my own padlock?

Yes — this way, you're always in control of who can access your unit. If you don't have one, you can buy one from our onsite shop.

Are there power sockets inside the units?

No, we don't currently supply power sockets inside self storage units.

What can't I store?

Most household and business items are fine, but it's illegal to store firearms, illegal substances (drugs, explosives), dangerous weapons, or anything else illegal or harmful to public health.
